Ape Action Africa (AAA) is a UK and USA based charity who helps endangered gorillas and chimpanzees in Cameroon, Africa. Formed in 1996 as the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF) they re-branded as AAA in 2009 to better streamline with their commitment. AAA rescues wild orphans from the illegal wildlife bushmeat and pet trades, and provides them with lifelong safe sanctuary at their protected center outside Yaounde, Cameroon.
One of their most touching stories involves the inspirational little Gorilla named Shufai. He barely survived the murder of his mother over ten years ago and was subsequently abused by villagers until he could be rescued. Traumatized and badly injured, the team at Ape Action Africa began working on his recovery. Director Rachel Hogan sat outside his cage for weeks – and this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I promise you will be moved by Shufai’s story. And when you are, please follow through and support this amazing team and the wonderful primate orphans they care for. If you’re up for an adventure, they have a volunteer program at their center in Mefou National Park in which you can contribute to the care for the animals and day to day operations.
